Goodbye to the Ice Man
Mikey left Dancing on Ice last night despite fighting back with an exceptional performance in the Skate off. The judges were tied until Robin tipped the balance by voting for Danielle. Even the hypercritical Jason was forced to admit that Mikey had done everything required and more and voted to keep him in.
Mikey remains philosophical saying:
When you gotta go you gotta go.
Don’t forget, he’ll be back for the live tour of Dancing on Ice and we’ll bring you news, straight from the Ice Man himself.
Mikey stays in the competition
Mikey fought bravely despite injuring his back and shoulder in dress rehearsals for last nights Dancing on Ice.
He had been suffering from aches and pains during the week and as a result he had difficulty when it came to performing to his full ability getting a score of 13.5 out of 30.
Judge Jason told him:
“It was not a good week for you but you know that, hopefully if you’re around next week you will be the Mikey that we know and love.”
Mikey will be getting treatment for his injury during the week and we’ll keep you updated.
Wild West for Mikey
Mikey & Mel tackled a Wild West themed routine, set to the classic Ring Of Fire by Johnny Cash, in last night’s Dancing on Ice.
After a training session at a local line dancing club, Mikey and Mel were all set for the routine and even had the outfits to match.
Mikey clearly enjoyed the routine and added his usual cheeky humour and the pair were given a score of 18.5, matching last week’s score.
Angela Rippon was one of the low scoring judges and wasn’t popular with the studio audience. She said:
‘I’d have liked you to have give more. There wasn’t enough “yee-ha”. It was a lacklustre performance, I wanted to see more character.’
But Karen Barber came to Mikey and Mel’s rescue as she told them:
‘That was a fun routine, it showed personality, but you have to up your game a bit.’
Jason Gardiner was supportive and encouraging saying:
‘You’re not afraid to be idiotic on the ice, you have fun and you’re uninhibited. But you lose focus at times, I can see it when your thought process catches up with you.’
Mikey faces uphill climb
Following last weeks second place 20.5 score, Mikey and his partner Mel faced a technically and physically challenging routine on Sunday at a time when Mikey was really feeling the effects of the intense training regime.
Mikey said beforehand:
“It is a tricky little routine, it really is, there is a lot of foot work involved in it and a lot of concentration so yeah, I have my work cut out for me. I ‘m sick and tired of falling, I am in so much pain”
With a couple of minor stumbles, (most fans on Twitter thought they were harshly judged) the pair scored there lowest yet 15.
Mikey was philosophical as always and said:
“You can’t get it spot on every single time, every single week so I am very happy with those scores.”
Judge, Karen told Mikey to keep his chin up saying:
“I’m one of your biggest fans. It’s not that you can’t do it, it’s just not consistent yet. The spin was there, you have the required turns. It’s a blip. That’s all it is, don’t worry.”
Mikey to join Dancing on Ice tour
Mikey is among the stars who will take Dancing On Ice on the road this year.
Mikey is currently ranked in second place in the scoring and continuing to get amazing comments from the judges including the infamous Jason. He will join Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, series one winner Gaynor Faye, Chris Fountain and Ray Quinn, who won the last series of the ITV show, in headlining the fourth Dancing On Ice UK tour.
Mikey has been really enjoying the show despite the training taking it’s toll on his body, this week he’s been using Tiger balm and watching what he eats to “squeeze into the Lycra”!! The only worries that he’s reported on Twitter is that he would like to get some more flexibility into his upper body.
The Dancing On Ice tour will visit venues around the UK throughout April and May, starting on Thursday April 8th in Sheffield.
