Mikey hopes song written for wife can win Eurovision spot
A SONG Boyzone member Mikey Graham wrote for his wife is among five songs RTE have short-listed to represent Ireland in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.
‘Baby, Nothing’s Wrong’, which Graham also performs, beat off competition from hundreds of other entries, including one by Ronan Keating.
Last night, Graham (38) expressed his delight at the song’s selection by a panel including former Eurovision winner Linda Martin.
“I’m amazed and thrilled. If the Irish people like it as much as I do, it will be an honour to represent my country,” he said.
Describing the song as a “Billy Joel-type piano ballad”, Graham revealed its inspiration had been his wife Karen.
Great score for Mikey
Mikey got a video message of support from the boyz last night before putting in a great performance and getting a score of 18.5 from the judges.
A Neck slide; spread eagle start and gazelle leaps were the highlight of his dance with partner Melanie Lambert. Judge Karen told Mikey she was sure if he worked on his consistency he’d make the show’s final group while Nicky said he was “ a little stuttery in places” but followed with “your smile lights up the room”.
Emma added:
You’re such a strong partner; You make me feel part of your dance. You give me goosebumps I just hope the luck of the irish is with you tonight
The 43-year-old Holby City actor, Jeremy Sheffield struggled for speed on the ice and was the unanimous loser of the skate-off with Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies.
Barlow’s Glitz & Chips
Mikey and Ronan were invited to Gary Barlow’s tenth wedding anniversary celebration entitled “Glitz & Chips” and Mikey gave us a rundown on the event in what sounds like a great and original party.
Gary took to the stage and performed some great swing songs dedicated to his wife…. “I’ve got you under my skin” amongst others. Some of the other guest to perform were, Aleisha Dixon,Mark Owen, Ronan, Michael McIntyre and Peter Kaye. This was followed by a disco.
Prior to all that we were treated to Barlow’s Bingo, which was great fun, Denise Van Outten and Beverly Night were amongst the winners in that.
Harry Ramsden provided the fish and chips which where amazing.
The whole thing was a real who’s who of the entertainment industry… Andi Peters, Chris Moyles, Cheryl Cole, Ashley Cole, Kimberly Walsh, Jason Orange, Howard Donald to name a few.
Wow! That guy sure knows how to throw a party. I didn’t get to bed until seven a.m. and Ronan had to go to Oz that day.
