Kilmanjaro Update from Ronan…
It’s the end of the second day and we’re camping at around 3,400m. We set off in the rain forest which thinned out into heath land as we got higher. The mountain is now very desolate. It looks as how I’d expect the surface of the moon to be. From here we can finally see the summit of Kilimanjaro and it looks incredible. Each day we walk to a set height and then back track before setting camp. This is to help acclimatise to the reduced oxygen in the air. Everyone’s getting on great and spirits are really high. I’m missing my family and it’s going to be strange celebrating my birthday without them tomorrow. I’ve managed to bring an Iridium satellite phone with me so I’m hoping to be able to get in touch with them tomorrow.
Over and out!
Ronan.
